alex-bioHere is Alexander’s Biography and why he is the perfect Brand Ambassador for Albee Virtuosa.

I recently held the title of North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year.  I get to travel all over the world practicing what I love and educating and inspiring others. I wake up every day and think how fortunate I am to do this job. It wasn’t always like this though!

I left school at 15 with one ambition which was to enter the world of hairdressing. I gained a trainee placement with one of my hairdressing icons, Mark Hill. His salon was in the same village where I lived. I knuckled down and worked all the hours I could watching and learning from Mark and his artistic team’s talents. I was captivated by how the team could express themselves in their creativity with hair. I got the bug and Mark took me on to join his elite team.

At the age of 16 I was entered into ‘The Student of the Year Award’ at the National Hairdressing Championships, and won! In the following 2 years I won 11 more trophies.

At 19 I was nominated for The British Newcomer of the Year award and I won that too! I still hold the title of the youngest person to ever win this award! Achieving this proved to be a hugely important point in my life. It was the driving force behind my ambition to succeed in Professional Hairdressing.

In 2002 at the age of 21, I opened my own salon, Alexander Hair & Beauty, on the outskirts of Hull. With the freedom of my own salon I was able to create and identify my own style and set about recruiting and training a salon team to both reflect and enhance the image of the salon that has become well recognised. Working day and night enabled me to perfect my skills and gave me more opportunities to compete with the best in the country, and at the age of 22 I was nominated for British Men’s Hairdresser of the Year. A year later I was short listed for AIPP Men’s World Image Awards in Paris. Although I didn’t go on to win either of these, the nominations alone were a massive achievement and gave me a huge confidence boost. I’ve never looked back.
